How to fix or generate a new wordpress .htaccess file

Recovering Lost .htaccess Files

If you are in a situation where you deleted your old .htaccess files during an upgrade, but cannot find one in the WordPress download and do not have a backup, you can recreate one by going to the Settings>Permalinks SubPanel and then clicking on Save which will Update Permalink Structure. Note: that this will only recreate a stock WordPress .htaccess file, any previous modifications done by you will be lost. RBN: If you realise that you can not see pages, ie seeing a 404 error, this may be an indication of not having a wordpress .htaccess file in your root folder. The above fix will resolve this error and generate a new wordpress .htaccess file.
