Twitter hashtags a dying trend? - 3 ways you can revive the #hash

In a recent growth hacking event , Vincent Dignan  said, "stop using hashtags in twitter!"

After the room swallowed it's pride, including me. I thought, "he is right of course". When you are trying to hack your business, gain visibility, foster leads and kick start initial follower growth, @vincentdignan is the the person you need to listen to.

Here are the three ways I still use hashtags including on twitter:
1. You want to build a cross platform campaign that you want to track the success of. This is especially useful for providing across the board analytics using something as simple as google or a specialised hashtag a tracking service.
You can find hashtag tracking using Topsy http://topsy.com/analytics

2. You want to talk about a particular subject with a group of people on twitter. In such a groups conversation you append the hashtag to have a group conversation. Such public group conversations can be used to gain awareness for your brand just as before. In january twitter rolled out private group chats http://www.wired.com/2015/01/twitter-rolls-private-group-conversations-native-video-tools/

3. You want to categorise the type of tweets you are doing and highlight keywords, for your audience the things that are passionate to you. We do this in the way we talk to add interest to what we have to say. Some might say they do not add as much as a picture, emoji or other journalistic tool.

Here are some experts talking about link tracking.
